‘Time is right to create a network’: rail unions join forces on privatisation
It was a full house of rail union reps at the first fringe event of the Tuesday congress timetable: 'Global strategies for fighting rail privatisation and liberalisation’.
The focus? Using shared experiences from campaigns against fragmentation and privatisation, drawing lessons, building a network and a strategy, approaching the fight against neoliberal rail policies at a regional and international level.
Myeonghwan Kim of the Korean Railway Workers' Union (KRWU) presented his union's story, talking about the importance and impact of international support during KRWU's 23 day strike against privatisation in 2013.
He called for practical action, saying: “The time is right to make a network among ourselves, to bring our strength together.”
